How to Photograph Handwriting for a Clean Engraving
A few simple phone-camera steps can give us a clear handwriting sample while preserving every meaningful detail.

Your phone is all you need to send us a usable handwriting sample. The goal is not to create a perfect studio photograph. We simply need a sharp, evenly lit view of the original marks so we can preserve their character.
Start with a flat, bright setup
Place the note on a flat surface near a window or in another area with soft, even light. Smooth the paper gently and move anything that casts a shadow away from it.
- Use the original note whenever possible.
- Photograph from directly above rather than at an angle.
- Include the complete handwriting and leave a small border around it.
- Tap the handwriting on your phone screen so the camera focuses there.
- Check that the writing is sharp before uploading.

Avoid glare and heavy shadows
Turn off the flash if it creates a bright reflection. If your hand or phone casts a shadow, move closer to a window or rotate the paper. Dark handwriting on a light background usually gives the cleanest result.
Review the preview before adding it to your cart
The upload preview shows the exact photo attached to your order. Zoom in and make sure every letter or drawing you want engraved is visible. If something looks blurry or cropped, choose a new image before continuing.
